  1. As much critical acclaim was Glory at Sea has received, I can honestly say that I don't get it. I understand that it's supposed to be metaphorical and allegorical on some level about emotions surrounding hurricane Katrina. Maybe I am not smart enough to get them, or maybe they're vague on purpose to be left up to interpretation. Either way, I am still struggling to find meaning in this film. The narration by the little kid and the use of comic dialogue really didn't seem to blend or contrast with the obviously sad implications surrounding Katrina in a way that made sense to me. The ending where they find their loved ones seems strange, because it goes against the preacher's wishes. Maybe this is a commentary on faith not being the answer to your problems when it comes to missing your passed loved ones? I don't know. It's all a little too vague for my taste.
In terms of composition, the story is very visually interesting. The way that the debris is highlighted as structure of the setting works well with the theme. There were a lot of interesting shots, and the underwater scene at the end was visually very interesting, as everything underwater floats and creates interesting visuals. Logistically shooting underwater seems like it might be difficult, and I wonder how long it took them to get that right. Overall, I didn't really get the story, but the technical work and visual aspects of the film were excellent.

  2. Wow. "Glory at Sea" was one of the most moving pieces I have ever seen. I can barely even begin to wrap my mind around it. The story of hope and loss was absolutely touching and inspiring. The way the story was told as a quest to reconnect with lost ones by building a ship of the wreckage and the things that meant the most to the characters. The stunning visuals of the lights and the sea. The music that harmonized everything together, being both upbeat and somber at the same time. Wow is really all I can say. This piece was nothing too hard to create, but it was a unique, creative, heartfelt story that really utilized every aspect and combined them together well to create the overall tone and theme. "Glory at Sea" is definitely my favorite short film that we have watched this semester and I will be sharing it with as many people as I possibly can. Truly fantastic work!

  3. "Glory at Sea" was one of the more interesting shorts that we watched this semester. I did not fully understand the meaning of the film because of all the different characters. I felt like if it was focused on less people, the message would have been easier to understand. While the story confused me a little, the visuals in the short were very well done. The shots were intriguing to watch, especially the underwater shots. I loved how the camera moved through all of the people at the bottom of the ocean. I also really liked the wide shots used in the short. The wide shot of the characters with the bathtub was probably one of my favorite shots. This short was not my favorite short from this semester but it was very well made and had a lot of thought and meaning put into it.

  4. "Glory at Sea" was one of the coolest shorts we have seen all year. The first problem was the amount of characters in the film, it made it kind of unclear the exact premise of the film. Another thing I really liked was the unique visuals that were going on, the floating bodies was pretty cool, the sound of the film was pretty solid, the music accented the film very well, and the overall type of camera shots and angles taken really made this a fantastic film to watch, and have since posted on various social media sites.

  5. This film was very well made. The camera work was extremely well done, kind of messy, but fit very well with the sets used for the production. A few things seemed slightly out of focus, but that very well may have been the quality I was able to view it in with the monitor i had to watch on. The story line was very interesting. Well thought out and extremely well executed. The editing pulls together nicely which is a difficult task with how much movement there is from the camera. My favorite part of this production is the sound track behind the film. Everything fits extremely well with the action on screen and sounds incredible. Overall, great film.

  6. That film was very unique. I thought it to be a very interesting take on New Orleans and Katrina. It made New Orleans seem like a totally different world, which it was during those times. A very different use of water as well. I would be interested to know how they figured out that. The use of natural light is beautiful as well. I imagine some sort of underwater lights were used as well. Acting and costume were very good, I enjoyed the diversity of the characters. The soundtrack added my emotions as well. I think overall this is a very well rounded movie that takes a very interesting look at Katrina.
